-Drink: water (1/2 your weight in ounces/day)
-Sleep: 8 hours/day
-Move: "Motion is lotion." This means motion keeps your joints lubricated. Be active, avoid elevators, park further away, walk; don't sit hours in front of TV/PC. My wife and I have worked up to 4 miles a day at a 17 minute per mile pace. Strive for 15,000 to 20,000 steps per day. Dr. Greger takes calls and even makes videos while walking on his treadmill. Dr. Mike Diamonds is a big proponent for walking for reducing fat.
-Eat: WPN (no soda or oil for starters!)
-Smart: No smoking, alcohol, drugs (like duh!)
-Stress: I know, it's hard, how does one "reduce" stress? Constant stress and anxiety is bad. You can feel it. Your body produces chemicals to help it survive many thousands of years ago. "Fight or flight." This was necessary when being chased by a lion, for example. If these chemicals raised your cholesterol, that was still better than being dead. Today, constant stress keeps your body in this fight or flight state constantly which is very harmful. Being able to provide food and shelter and healthcare for oneself and often for others too, for now and into the future, can often create a level of stress from the fear of losing one's source of income or job. Parents may worry about their small children and senior citizens may worry about infirmities and end-of-life issues. A strong belief in God and gratitude for all the blessings we Americans have helps me a lot.
-Know: your numbers! (TC, LDL, BMI) (TC less than 150 and LDL less than 57) BMI between 18.5 and 23 (per Dr. Fuhrman). BMI is computed by taking one's weight in kilograms (which is pounds divided by 2.2) and then dividing it by one's height in meters (which is inches times 2.54 then divided by 100) and then dividing it again by one's height in meters. For example, for me it would be taking my weight of 150 pounds and dividing it by 2.2 to get 68.2 kilograms and then dividing it twice by my height in meters which is 71 inches times 2.54 divided by 100 for 1.80 meters. This gives 68.2/1.80/1.80=21.0 resulting in a BMI of 21.0.
-Laugh: Laughter is really healthful. Really! The Internet is full of silly cat videos among others. One of my favorites is a video showing labs chasing a ball down a dock and then not being able to stop quick enough and then sliding off the dock into the lake. Having had a pair of labs ourselves, we love watching them.
-Friends: Stay connected; socialize! Spread the good news!
This WPN movement is picking up steam like a locomotive! Grocery stores are changing, restaurants are changing, fast food chains are changing, food delivery services are changing, even the USDA has and continues to change! While eating out, Subway has vegan options and Burger King has its Impossible Whopper with "heavy all" and no mayonnaise. Using the Burger King App, their Impossible Whopper is about half price on Wednesdays. After we reach the 10% tipping point, like the habit of smoking, the change throughout the whole world will be inevitable!
